About Us

Saving Strays Animal Rescue is a local animal charity based in Bolton. We care for and re-home unwanted cats, dogs, horses, rabbits and would never allow a healthy animal to be put down.

Many of our animals have not had the best start in life and are in need of support from their new families. To ensure they get this it is our policy to carry out home checks on all potential new homes prior to adoption. In this way we hope to provide the most suitable homes for our animals and give them the best possible chance of finding their new forever families.

Saving Strays Animal Rescue is staffed by a small team of volunteers, without whom we could not operate. If you would like to get involved with Saving Strays Animal Rescue and our work, why not make a donation, volunteer or foster. Any help you can offer will always be greatly appreciated by all of us here at Saving Strays Animal Rescue and of course by all of the animals in our care!

What we do?

We ensure that every animal is neutered, vaccinated, has flea and worm treatment, and is microchipped, along with any other medical needs that animal has.

All vet history is recorded at our chosen vets and will be passed onto the new owner upon adoption.

How do we do it?

We have a set adoption fee for cats and dogs that covers not only that animal’s care but goes towards the care of all our animals in rescue.

When you adopt from Saving Strays Animal Rescue we provide you with an Adoption Contract and all the vet history needed for your new pet.

We are a part of the Home Checkers Network which now allows us to rehome all over the UK.

Why should you adopt and not shop?

At Saving Strays Animal Rescue, we meet animals from every walk of life. Some arrive frightened and neglected, some are surrendered because their owners have fallen on difficult times, and others simply need somebody willing to give them a second chance.

One thing they all have in common?

They don’t care how big your house is, what car you drive, or whether your sofa is brand new. They only care that they are loved.

Why Rescue Animals Make Incredible Pets

There is a common misconception that rescue animals are somehow “damaged” or more difficult than buying from a breeder. The truth couldn’t be further from reality. Rescue animals are often the most loving, loyal and grateful companions you could ever welcome into your family.

Many of the animals that come into rescue have simply been victims of circumstance. Their owners may have become ill, lost their home, experienced a relationship breakdown, or sadly passed away. Others may never have experienced kindness before and simply need time, patience and understanding to flourish.

Watching an animal learn that they are finally safe is one of the most rewarding experiences imaginable.

Every Animal Has a Story

At Saving Strays, we care for cats, dogs, rabbits and horses that all have their own unique personalities and histories. Some need medical treatment, some need behavioural support, and some simply need a warm bed and a loving hand.

Rescue isn’t just about finding an animal a home. It’s about matching the right animal with the right family.

We take the time to understand the needs of both our animals and our adopters because we want every adoption to last a lifetime. Sometimes that means waiting a little longer to find the perfect match, but seeing our animals thrive in their forever homes makes it worthwhile every single time.

Rescue Changes Two Lives

People often say they rescued their dog or cat, but anyone who has adopted an animal from a rescue organisation will tell you that it works both ways.

Rescue animals have an incredible way of changing our lives. They provide companionship, improve our mental wellbeing, encourage us to get outdoors, and offer unconditional love every single day.For many adopters, their rescue animal becomes the best decision they ever made.

How You Can Help

Not everyone is in a position to adopt, but there are so many ways you can support rescue animals.

You could:

  • Foster an animal while they wait for their forever home.
  • Volunteer your time to help with fundraising or animal care.
  • Donate to help cover veterinary treatment and everyday essentials.
  • Share our social media posts to help animals find loving homes.
  • Consider adopting when the time is right for you.

Every share, every donation and every act of kindness makes a difference.

Together, We Can Give Them the Future They Deserve

At Saving Strays Animal Rescue, we believe that every animal deserves a second chance. No matter their age, breed or background, they deserve to feel safe, loved and valued.

When you choose rescue, you’re not simply adopting a pet. You’re giving an animal the opportunity to experience what every animal deserves – a happy, secure and loving forever home.

And in return, they’ll give you far more than you could ever imagine.

Because every stray deserves to become someone’s family.
